About Us

This is Krisztofer & Dávid. We’ve been travelling together for about 11 years. We are tourists, travellers, wannabe locals – you name it. Either way, we are endlessly curious about the world around us and the people and cultures that make it so fascinating.
We’re from Europe, Hungary to be exact, and we’ve been lucky enough to visit almost every country on the continent, as well as a few places beyond its borders.
Krisztofer is a sociologist with a passion for cultures, natural wonders and infrastructure – and a particular love for railways. He’s the one who finds the plane ticket and, after a bit of research, somehow manages to buy it for half the price.
Dávid is a philologist who is interested in art, loves books and is fascinated by stories. Mention a destination, and there’s probably already a travel plan taking shape in his head – complete with a printable version not long after.
About this Site
Over all these years, we’ve accumulated a huge pile of travel stories, photos and experiences, but mostly shared them only with friends and family, posting sporadically along the way. Now it’s time to organise them and share them with the world.
That’s one of the reasons this website was born. The other is our biggest adventure yet: a trip around the world.
Under Countries you find the posts, which belong to the specific country. Under Tips & Guides we collected our practical guides, and under Blog you can find our travel journal.
All of our texts are written by us — mostly by Dávid. As our mother tongue is Hungarian, we eventually use AI-tools for editing or to translate an original Hungarian texts written by us to English language.
Each and every photo is taken and edited by us — unless otherwise stated.
Where the name comes from
SKVID stands for Krisztof (K) and Dávid (VID) and is a hint for one of favourite sea creature. It has eight tentacles as we together have eight limbs. It is known in every ocean and sea, similarly we would gladly discover any part of the world.
Our travel style
We travel independently. We plan our own trips, book our tickets and accommodation. It can be tiring sometimes, but it’s usually fun — and worth the effort. We discover a place through its culture, traditions and, of course, its food. As much as we enjoy getting to know a place from the inside, we also love finding those high spots where you can gain a better perspective and get a sense of the place you’re in. And, more often than not, they come with a beautiful view.
Whenever possible, we love experiencing everyday local life — because who doesn’t love a local supermarket or a small fishing harbour? At the same time, we’re still ticking off the sights you simply can’t miss. We believe the best way to travel is to be a wannabe local - on a day off, a curious traveller and, sometimes, a proper tourist.
Prices matter, of course, but for us, budgeting matters more. We’d rather spend a little extra on a unique experience or a museum ticket than on flights or eating out every day. If we can get somewhere by public transport and walk around like the locals, we won’t take a taxi. We know our priorities, and that helps us keep our trips reasonably priced without missing out on the things that matter to us.
